For this week’s #journalchallenge post, I thought I’d write about something related to writing.
I remember someone once said writing is art and I remember thinking: what writing isn’t art! To me, writing was just writing, something I had done for as long as I could remember. I always thought of writing as more of a craft, something honed over time rather than art.
When you think of the word artist, it automatically conjures up the image of someone painting a picture or drawing a sketch.
One definition I’ve found for an artist is: one who professes and practises imaginative art, or a person who is skilled in fine arts.
Thinking about it, writers are artists too. They create art by using words to create fantastic characters and beautiful words the same way a painter paints. I do see writing as more of an art form than just a craft to be learned. You can teach someone to write words but to write a book, especially fiction, I think you have to dig a little deeper than that. The characters have to seem real for readers to connect to them.
Do you think writing is a craft or an art?

I believe it’s an art, but of course, everyone has different opinions and thoughts 🙂

Honestly, I don’t even know why this is a question in people’s minds. Writing has been practiced and valued as an art form since antiquity.

I think bridging the gap between our streams of consciousness and conveying those creative flows to the reader – that’s art!

True, I never thought that way when I was younger but I definitely do now. Don’t know why people don’t consider writing an art form.

Yep, very true.

I love thought provoking questions such as this one. I think a writer is creative and that falls into the category of being an artist.
