Today I’m interviewing author Carissa Lusk as part of the blog tour for her new book After The Fall. Check it out below!
Tell us a little about yourself.
Hello, fellow readers and writers!
I am the author of After the Fall, a new adult paranormal romance novel, and I’m thrilled to finally be able to call myself a published writer. I was born and raised in southern West Virginia, and I’m still sticking around the mountain state despite my love of the ocean. One day my husband and I will live by the beach, though. I graduated from Concord College with a Bachelor of Arts in English, which is the perfect degree for a book nerd like myself. After the Fall is my debut novel.
When did you start writing, and why?
I always wanted to be a writer. I think it was probably something I inherited from my mom. Even as a little kid, I would write poems and short stories. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English, but after college, I was burned out on reading and writing for a few years. Then I decided to see what all the Twilight hype was about, and I read the series. I fell in love with reading again, and that renewed my interest in writing my own novel.
What is your latest book or series? Any forthcoming books?
After the Fall is a new adult paranormal romance, which I published in July. It’s about a girl named Amity Day and her discovery of all the secrets that surround her. More than anything else, though, it’s a love story. I’m currently working on a prequel to After the Fall.
“Welcome To My Worlds”: Tell us a little about the world of your latest book or series.
Since this was my first experience writing a novel, I took the age old advice of “write what you know.” I put the characters in a world that is very familiar to me. After the Fall is set mostly in southern West Virginia. Half of the story takes place at the college I attended. The main character lives in the dorm where I lived. She is from my hometown. The setting is very much real, but the characters in my story are conflicted by the fictional, paranormal aspects that come into play.
Introduce us to some of your characters. What do you like about them?
The three most important characters in the novel are Amity Day, Alexander Finney, and Marcus Riley.
The story is told from Amity’s point of view. She is a junior in college at the start of the novel and a sorority girl. Put aside your sorority girl stereotypes, though. Amity is a bit socially awkward, and she loves poetry and literature more than parties. She may seem a little needy at first, but deep down she is stronger than she knows.
Alex is Amity’s high school sweetheart. From the day they met, he is the embodiment of everything she wants in a boyfriend. He is charming, thoughtful, and protective, not to mention the most gorgeous guy ever. What’s not to love about him?
And then there is Marcus. Though told from Amity’s point of view, there is no question this whole story is about him. His eyes capture Amity’s attention, and from that moment on, she is drawn to him. He has the same pull toward Amity, and he is persistent in his pursuit of her. I love a character with a little bit of mystery, which is my favorite thing about Marcus.
A fun fact you would like your readers to know about you or your book.
A fun fact about me…I have a cat named Snots. How did she receive such a beautiful name? My husband and I found this tiny kitten one day on the side of the road. I couldn’t leave her, so I brought her home. She was sick and sneezed constantly, thus the name Snots. But ten years later, she is fat and healthy and currently sleeping on my couch.

Amity cries out into the darkness that surrounds her, hoping for a solitary voice to provide direction; she hears two.
Amity knows she loves Alexander, yet the loneliness brought on by the miles that separate them can only be curbed by the cryptic affection of Marcus Riley. She can’t understand the strange familiarity she finds in the wild blue of Marcus’s eyes, but she will soon learn his secret.
Plagued with dreams and memories of lives beyond her own, a tragic fate will emerge from the ashes of a love scorned. Eventually, she will discover the dark truth that will leave her running for her life, and she will learn who sacrificed everything to save it.
Carissa Lusk grew up in a small town in West Virginia and never moved far from home. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Concord College. She credits her love of reading and writing to Kate Chopin, Emily Bronte, and her mom. After the Fall is Carissa’s debut novel.
